Brenda Coêhlo de Souza and her new daughter Ágata Ribeiro Coêlho have a story that’s been spreading from their hospital in Brazil, all across the world. It’s one of those touching birth stories you tell your kids to get the idea that the birthing process is entirely beautiful, and it all starts with a cesarean.
There’s an odd general stigma related to C-sections that a natural birth doesn’t come with, that the moment isn’t as special. This is believed due to the fact that any expecting mother would be under a heavy anesthetic for the surgery and aren’t able to hold the baby once it’s delivered; instead, the baby is placed on the mother’s chest or by her head. Well, Brenda had gone ahead with a C-section and little Ágata was placed beside her mom’s head.
What followed was one of the most adorable moments in birth history. Ágata reached her tiny little hand around her mother’s face and began caressing her cheek. As though telling her mom, “Hello” for the first time. It’s one of those moments that even had the present nurses cooing and aww-ing as though it was their own, and in a way it kind of was.
Eventually the little baby began crying, but a few soothing words from her mother seemed to quiet her down better than anything else at that hospital could.
Sometimes you just know that the life of a child and her mother is going to work out just fine, and there will never be a lack of love to share between them — I’m no expert but I’m pretty sure this is one of those occasions. This is why it’s important to have that bonding time between mother and child directly after birth, not to test some weird theory you read on the internet, but to allow them to ‘meet’ for the first time instead of listening to one another behind a wall of flesh and time.
Take a look for yourself in the video below. I’ve got to warn you, it’s probably going to make you want to call your own mother!
