It’s always so heartwarming to see large companies go out of their way to extend kindness to everyday people. Remember when Lowe’s got creative with their hiring in order to accommodate a disabled veteran? How about when Home Depot constructed a special walker for a little boy with unique needs?
Now Chevron is joining their ranks with a touching gesture for a father mourning the loss of his son.
That father is Ray Olson, and he is an inspiration in and of himself. 12 years ago, his son Raymond died in a crash involving a drunk driver. Ever since that day, Ray has devoted himself to secretly tending to a roadside memorial he constructed in Raymond’s honor.
Since the memorial was on Chevron’s property, Ray always feared he would get in trouble for maintaining the memorial, so he’d sneak up to the memorial at night to work on it then. When he heard the property was getting upgraded, he was sure Chevron would get rid of the memorial, which had remained there for 12 years.
Then one night, he found a surprising note.
Ray called the number and was blown away to find that the property owners wanted to remove Ray’s memorial… only so that they could replace it with a more permanent fixture.
“It just changed my whole life,” said Ray.
It turns out, the property owners were moved by Ray’s love and devotion, so they decided to build a permanent memorial to his son, complete with a photo…
…and a park bench for Ray to sit whenever he visits.
