In a bizarre but true story out of South Carolina a few years ago, a single mom in the Rock Hill area lived alone and raised her five children all by herself. The worried mother of five had long worried about thieves or worse trying to break in, and made a point to make sure all the doors were locked every night.
Then the woman named Tracy began to hear strange noises coming from the attic on a semi-regular basis.
She didn’t think too much about it at first, as we all sometimes hear strange noises coming from the attic. But then the single mom started to notice the noises were clearly moving around up in the attic. Moreover, whatever was moving certainly seemed to be heavier than a squirrel or possum.
Right after she put the children to sleep one night, Tracy heard a noise and looked up to see the nails start to pop out of her ceiling.
At that point, Tracy decided to call her adult sons and nephew to come find out what was in the attic. The men figured they’d probably find a possum or a raccoon in the attic, but it turned out there was something much larger up there.
The three men went up the attic stairs and turned on their flashlights to find a grown man sleeping next to the heater. When they looked more closely, they were stunned to see it was their mother’s ex-boyfriend.
Tracy dialed 911 and the men blocked the attic door. It seems that the intruder had performed some housework for the family a couple of weeks before, and Tracy had even dated the man briefly long ago. Police eventually determined that the man had gotten in the house through the front door before going up into the attic. He told police he had been living there almost two weeks.
