When a precious two-year-old girl named Lily was diagnosed with cancer, her parents were understandably devastated. As soon word of Lily’s diagnosis reached family friend Holly Christensen, her mind immediately began racing, thinking of a way to help.
Holly, a 31-year-old mother of three, knew from her days as an oncology nurse just how difficult the hair loss associated with chemotherapy can be for a patient. So, with crochet hook in hand, she set herself to creating a pretty and playful Disney-princess-inspired wig for little Lily.
“I knew she would be going through a difficult time, and that no one would be able to take her suffering away. I figured that the yarn wig could help bring a little magic and fun to a difficult time in her life,” said Holly.
The two-year-old’s response to the beautiful Rapunzel wig Holly made was inspiring!
So inspiring, that Holly decided not to stop there. She made more wigs for Lily, and then began to craft even more magical creations for other sick children.
The Magic Yarn Project was born and funded by donations with a mission to create beautiful and soft yarn wigs for little girls with cancer and to encourage and facilitate volunteerism.
The wigs are now shipped around the world and are absolutely free to the children who need them.
Holly and her crocheting volunteers even started holding workshops to teach parents and their communities how to create the wigs themselves.
With over a hundred princess-inspired wigs warming the heads and hearts of little cancer fighters, the Magic Yarn Project is living up to every word of its promise to bring light and magic to the children it helps.
