Most of us know that raw, unprocessed honey is loaded with health benefits. Besides being nutritious and good for the soul, raw honey has recently been found to kill every kind of bacteria scientists introduced to it, even the worst ones…
The results of a study published in the European Journal of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases indicated that there may be a better way to fight bacteria and infections than antibiotics – especially considering that most superbugs are antibiotic resistant.
But manuka honey kills MRSA and other superbugs. Every study indicated that manuka honey beats back bacteria like a man-made chemical or drug.
You can use this type of honey to treat infections on the skin, like insect bites and cuts, by simply applying it topically like a cream. If you have bacteria inside, you can ingest it.
Compared to antibiotic treatments, none of the superbugs the honey killed were able to build up immunity to it.
Dr. Dee Carter of the University of Sydney’s School of Molecular and Microbial Biosciences admits that current antibiotics become useless as bacteria evolved resistances to them. Therefore, antibiotics need to be updated frequently. This problem has caused pharmaceutical companies to abandon antibiotic production in favor of more profitable drug deals. Dr. Carter says that the compound methylglyoxal is the compound in the manuka honey that makes it so powerful against bacteria.
You can find manuka honey at your local health food store and online. But beware. Supply levels are reduced and people are selling FAKE honey.
If you want to buy genuine manuka honey make sure it is UMF certified, which means it has been verified for its Unique Manuka Factor, a phytochemical property obtained from the manuka bushes.
According to Mayo Clinic, MSRA is a superbug – “Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) infection is caused by a type of staph bacteria that’s become resistant to many of the antibiotics used to treat ordinary staph infections.”
Symptoms of an MSRA infection include: “swollen, painful red bumps that might resemble pimples or spider bites. The affected area might be: Warm to the touch, Full of pus or other drainage, Accompanied by a fever”
If you think you have MSRA or another skin infection, apply manuka honey directly to the affected area on your skin. Reapply as needed until the infection goes away.
