A 17-year-old Pakistani newlywed was allegedly killed on her wedding night by her husband, possibly because she was not a virgin.
Khanzadi Lashari married her cousin Qalandar Bux Khokhar the night before police discovered her body in her bedroom, the Express Tribune reports.
A photo circulating says that the deceased bride was killed by her husband in an “honor killing” for “not being a virgin,” though police have yet to verify this information.
The 17-year-old’s body was found in her home in ADC Colony in Jacobabad, Pakistan. Her mother notified police after the teen failed to respond to her the morning after the wedding. Officers forced entry into the bedroom and found Khanzadi’s lifeless body on her bed.
Police are now searching for the young woman’s husband, who is on the run. Several raids have been carried out in search of Khokhar, though he has still not been found.
The victim’s brother, Ali Sher Lashari issued a formal complaint with police, accusing Khokhar and his four brothers of killing his sister.
According to Khanzadi’s mother, the teen and her cousin married with mutual consent.
