It is difficult to explain love because it often defies all logic or reason. Such is the case with couple Henry and Jeanette De Lange.
The South Dakota pair spent 63 years of their lives together, raising a family and growing together in their love for each other.
Time can be cruel, though. In their later years Jeanette developed Alzheimer’s disease and Henry began a battle with prostate cancer. But through it all the two never left each other’s sides.
On July 31, knowing that Jeanette was close to passing, the family gathered to say their goodbyes. And that’s when something remarkable happened.
Jeanette’s family read to her from Psalm 103, and as they read she passed away peacefully.
“She passed away very, very peacefully. Incredibly peacefully,” said son Lee De Lange.
Lee then looked over at his father, still fighting cancer, and told him, “mom’s gone to heaven” – he didn’t have to fight anymore.
Just 20 minutes later, Henry opened his eyes and looked over at his bride. Then he closed them again and peacefully passed away.
“We’re calling it a beautiful act of God’s providential love and mercy,” said Lee. “You don’t pray for it because it seems mean but you couldn’t ask for anything more beautiful.”
Together in death the same way they had been together in life. Beautiful.
This isn’t the first time something like this has happened. Just last month couple George and Ora Lee Rodriguez, who had been married for 58 years, died just hours apart from each other.
