Sarah and Andy Justice from Oklahoma really wanted to start a family. The couple met in college and quickly became inseparable. After graduating, they married and soon after started trying to get pregnant. However, something wasn’t quite right.
No one could say what the problem was, but the Justices knew they couldn’t afford $60,000 for fertility treatments. So, they decided to adopt. Everything seemed to be going perfectly: they found a woman who was already pregnant, but wanted to give her baby up for adoption. However, everyone was in for a big surprise…
It turns out the biological mother was pregnant with triplets! Wow. Sarah and Andy didn’t hesitate for a moment. They stood by their commitment and were so excited to take Joel, Hannah, and Elizabeth home with them.
The babies were born one month early and needed some extra medical attention, but were generally in good health. But the surprises weren’t over yet.
It turns out that Sarah was also pregnant! It was completely unexpected. Sarah and Andy were certainly going to have their hands full.
Sarah’s pregnancy was considered high-risk due to her medical history so she underwent extra testing. Then came the next surprise: Sarah was pregnant with twins! She was shocked and a bit confused. She remembers calling Andy with hesitation. “Is it a boy or a girl?” he asked. “Well, one will be a boy…” Andy gasped.
Babies Andrew and Abigail were born six months later, completing this young family. What a change of situation: from concerns about getting pregnant to parents of five babies in no time at all!
Naturally, the first few weeks and months were very challenging. The family went through 300 diapers in one week alone and a regular sleep schedule was a thing of the past!
But one thing is certain: this family is so grateful for their children. Sarah said, “If we could turn back time, we would do everything the same way. Everything is perfect as it is. Our five kids are such treasures.” Good thing they are in it together.
