While almost everyone loves the energy boost from a caffeinated beverage, some people love caffeine so much that they drink multiple energy drinks. Energy drinks can be rather unhealthy, since too much caffeine causes the heart to race rapidly. When they are combined with alcohol, the effects of energy drinks can be even more unhealthy.
Red Bull combined with vodka is a very common alcoholic beverage, even though the energy drink company warns customers against combining their product with alcohol. Combining caffeine with alcohol is dangerous because caffeine is a stimulant while alcohol is a depressant. This means that the sleepy effect of alcohol is counteracted by the invigorating effects of caffeine, and the jumpiness caused by caffeine is calmed by the alcohol. Unfortunately, drinking caffeine with alcohol makes it far easier for people to overdose on either caffeine or alcohol without noticing it.
One man decided to drink 20 Red Bulls mixed with vodka, and the results are truly horrifying. The entire left side of his chest looks hot, sweaty, and red as his heart beats rapidly. His body is struggling so much that you can actually see his heart beating through his chest as health care providers rush to save him. Take a look at this video to see just how dangerous it is to mix Red Bull with vodka.
