Yulia Selina, a 34-year-old woman from Saint Petersburg, Russia, was tickled pink to be expecting her second child. She was hoping for a natural childbirth for the delivery, but the position of the baby led her to go the cesarean-section route.
As Goodfullness shares, that C-section nearly caused her to lose her life.
The procedure seemed to go off without a hitch, but Selina soon realized something wasn’t right. She was in some excruciating pain, and she knew it was more than just the after effects of the procedure.
“My belly started to swell. It even grew bigger than it was when I was 9 months pregnant. Every movement caused me horrible pain. At first, I thought it was just a natural reaction to the operation, but then I couldn’t even sit up anymore. The pain would make me scream,” she recalls.
Her doctors even insisted that it was just a normal reaction, but their diagnosis proved to be horribly wrong. She would be rushed into emergency surgery the next day, and what the surgeons would find was truly stunning.
“I understood that, if I waited any longer for the doctors to help me, my children would be left without a mother,” she recalls.
Inside of her abdomen was an inordinate amount of pus – and a sheet from the operating room. She’s on the road to recovery now and doing much better, but that hasn’t quelled her anger over the doctor’s carelessness.
“I’m trying, I want to forgive and excuse those who did this to me, but then I think about how my family could have lost me forever. I would like to settle this in a civilized way,” she says.
Her family has retained an attorney to move forward with a lawsuit against the hospital. If nothing else, perhaps her case will lead to some major changes at the facility, as it’s quite obvious business as usual could have some deadly consequences.
