It Wasn’t Until They Get Home That They Realized How Rare Their Photo Really Was [Image]

Getting maternity photos is a fun part of a woman’s pregnancy. While dealing with all of the other stresses, like morning sickness, prenatal depression, and body images issues, it is fun to take photos of her beautiful pregnant body. It not only makes her feel good but it also gives parents some memories of their pregnancy.

Father-to-be Dan Mozer knew it was time to take some maternity photos. So, he asked his wife to go to the beach with him. He had a few photo shoot ideas that he wanted to try.

As a team, they headed to Atlantic Beach near Jacksonville, Florida and took a walk on the sand. Suddenly, Dan was inspired. He asked his wife to pose, with the ocean as the backdrop, and then Dan lifted his camera and snapped a few images.

But when they saw what was in the photo, he realized it was a once in a lifetime shot…

With a big smile on her face and her hand on the side of her baby bump, Mozer’s wife Angeline stood in front of the ocean waves.

But off to the side in the background, an unexpected guest decided to make an appearance in the photograph as well. What was it? A dolphin leaped out of the water in a beautiful arc at just the exact moment Dan snapped the picture.

The dolphin, which was above water for just a second or two, was caught in the image perfectly. Mozer knew there were dolphins in the area, so it wasn’t completely unexpected. But he never thought he’d actually catch a picture of his pregnant wife with the jumping dolphin in the back.

“When I took it, I was like, ‘Oh, my God!’ Unfortunately, she totally missed it.” Dan was amazed.

Dan and Angeline credit their unborn son Courtland for the dolphin. They know the baby is lucky so he must have attracted the animal somehow.

The family joked that Courtland was “summoning dolphins” from his mother’s womb. The baby was born on January 27.

“Someone started yelling to us that there were dolphins, and we could see their dorsal fins,” Dan Mozer, 30, told Yahoo Parenting. “It really wasn’t random. We saw their fins and I was waiting for them. I had set my camera on ‘burst,’ so there’s a series of three.”

The dolphin really wanted to be featured in the shot. So for good measure, it jumped from the water again.

“The dolphin actually jumped twice, but I liked the first jump picture best,” Dan says, laughing. “How quickly I forget how magical a dolphin jumping out of the water is! Now I’m picking my favorite jump!”

Although Courtland seems to be a dolphin whisperer, Dan said, “And, no, we’re not changing his name, as some have suggested, to Dolph Finn.”

Taking maternity photos is an amazing experience. But what the Mozers caught on camera is something that Courtland is going to love when he is older.
