Instead of socializing, playing outside or using his Xbox like other rambunctious 12-year-old boys, you can find Campbell Remess in his bedroom, plugging away on the sewing machine.
“If Campbell could be on that sewing machine 24/7, he would,” she told The Feed. “Not every 12-year-old would do that.”
“If I say ‘Don’t do it,’ he sneaks,” she added.
At the age of 9, the little boy from Tasmania asked his mom and dad if the family could buy Christmas presents for the children at their local hospital. But Campbell has eight siblings, so Sonya and her husband Nathan couldn’t afford any more gifts than what they allotted for their kids.
Not one to be deterred, Campbell came up with his own solution. Instead of buying gifts for the young patients, he would create them himself by hand — and so, he proceeded to teach himself how to use a sewing machine with no prior experience whatsoever.
Campbell’s first creation took him five hours to finish. Every day from then on, he made one hand-sewn gift for a sick child. He visited kids in the hospital every week out of the kindness of his heart.
Then, in 2011, Campbell’s father Nathan was diagnosed with cancer. Campbell put his newly acquired sewing skills to make his beloved dad a stuffed bear to help with his stress… and Nathan says it worked.
