Though her parents divorced at an early age, The Blunt Blonde blogger, Jonna Miller, always had a vision of a fairytale marriage.
She pictured meeting her dream guy, falling in love, and living happily ever after.
Her fairytale came true to some extent. She tells IJ.com that she texted best friend after the first date with her future husband and said, I just met my husband.
But life inevitably throws curveballs, and it isnt always happily ever after. In her piece entitled, If Your Working Husband Makes You Feel Lonely Do His Laundry, she explains:
I dont ever recall the Prince in the fairytale having rough, cracked hands and crows feet before he turns 30. I dont recall the Prince missing dinners because he was working over time or going to bed shortly after he came home to his Palace because he was so exhausted.
Jonna admits that being married to a hardworking man sometimes takes a toll on her, and her loneliness causes her to act irrational at times.
I know Im putting him in a lose-lose situation, she says. He literally cant win. If he doesnt work late, we wont get the new furniture set that I HAVE to have. If he does work late, he comes home to a nagging wife who is desperate for his attention.
Sometimes it takes an Aha! moment for Jonna to realize what she has.
One of these Aha! moments came as she was folding laundry. She noticed a stark difference between her clothes and her husbands.
Why did my clothes look so vibrant, clean and new? His were dingy, stained and torn. I stopped folding and just stood there, thinking.
Immediately she had an overwhelming feeling of guilt and shame, as though she had failed as a wife.
This man provides more than I deserve. If I tell him I want something, very seldom will he tell me no…
Instead of being grateful that I have an amazing husband who takes amazing care of me and our daughter, I wait for him to come home to pick a fight. I get spoiled with the fruits of his labor and he is okay with a pair of torn boxer briefs.
Through all of this Jonna has learned to not listen to the fairytales.
She explains to IJ.com that she and her husband put God at the head of their household and recognize that marriage is not 50/50 its 100/100.
And after doing his laundry, she is better able to appreciate the love her husband has for her.
His hands are rough. They have blisters and theyre cracked. His clothes are torn, stained and dingy. He doesnt care, though. His heart is full when he walks into the door.
And the love he has for her is the most beautiful form of love there is he works hard to provide his family with everything they need.
