An 18-year-old girl said that she was recently kidnapped and gang-raped before showing up at a church bloodied and barely clothed. As if that wasn’t troubling enough, as soon as cops began their investigation, they made an alarming discovery that would leave anyone’s stomach churning when they heard the news.
Breana Harmon Talbott was reported missing after her fiance found her car abandoned in an apartment parking lot with the driver’s side door open and her phone, keys, and a shoe nearby. In Denison, Texas, police immediately started a search, believing that the teen had been abducted. However, a few hours later, the young woman showed up at a church, bloodied and wearing no pants, claiming that she had been kidnapped and gang-raped by “three black males,” but when policebegan to investigate, they made an alarming discovery.
In a matter of days, police began noticing holes in Talbott’s story. Sadly, one of the biggest holes was the fact that “medical professionals who examined Talbott at the hospital were unable to find evidence she was sexually assaulted,” according to Daily Mail.
After Police Chief Jay Burch announced, “We believe the crime scene – from the initial ‘kidnapping’ scene at the apartment complex to the point of Talbott’s condition when she walked into the church – were staged,” Talbott made an infuriating announcement — the entire thing was a hoax.
The day after her disturbing confession, Talbott was arrested and charged with making a false report to a police officer. The police department plans to go after her for the cost of the search effort as well. Unfortunately, police have not revealed the teen’s motivation for the hoax or whether her fiance was a participant in her lies.
“Breana Harmon Talbott’s hoax was also insulting to our community and especially offensive to the African-American community due to her description of the so-called suspects in her hoax,” police said in a statement. “The anger and hurts caused from such a hoax are difficult and so unnecessary.”
Although the police department is absolutely correct that what she did was insulting to the African-American community, even more importantly, it’s insulting to the people who have actually been victims of rape. She should truly be embarrassed with her actions, considering what she did is beyond disgusting, it’s revolting.
Clearly, she has some issues if she thinks it’s acceptable to not only pull off a hoax of this nature but to do it without caring about others who have been the victim of such atrocities. She will forever be known as the girl who tried to fake being gang-raped, all because she felt she needed a little bit of attention. Our world is truly turning into a disgusting place, but there is some comfort in the fact that she has earned herself some time behind bars and a reputation that will plague her for the rest of her life, all of which she deserves.
